VGETS Launches Discord Server to Enhance Collaboration on Video Game Industry Safety Standards

New online platform will facilitate communication between companies and industry stakeholders in the global gaming industry to improve online safety, fight fraud, and deepen trust.

October 2, 2024 — VGETS (The Video Game Ethics Trust and Safety working group), a trust group focused on collaboration on active cases and emerging threats in the video game industry, proudly announces the launch of its official Discord server. This platform is intended for industry professionals to share non-proprietary information in real time.

The VGETS Discord server aims to broaden dialogue between gaming companies and industry stakeholders, streamlining discussions on critical topics such as threat intelligence, content moderation, and the protection of environments for video game company staff, moderators, and players.

“Our goal with the Discord server is to create a hub where private industry and public agencies can easily exchange ideas and work collectively to improve trust and safety practices in the video game industry. The challenges the video game industry faces in ensuring staff and player safety are constantly evolving, and we believe that a dedicated platform for real-time communication will help foster stronger, more effective responses.”

Neil Schwartzman, president of vgets

“Through this new initiative, we’re fostering deeper collaboration within the video game industry, aiming to establish a unified approach to tackling safety issues and harassment.”

Don McGowan, VGETS Board member and former Bungie General Counsel

“With the creation of this server, we’re not just addressing current safety concerns—we’re laying the foundation for a safer and more inclusive future for the global gaming community.”

Eve Crevoshay, VGETS Board member and Executive Director of Take This

The server is open to all companies and professionals involved in the video game industry, including developers, publishers, platform operators, security and social media platforms, and law enforcement agencies. The VGETS Discord aligns with the model successfully used in other communities, such as incident response, anti-phishing, and anti-spam efforts.

VGETS hopes that by providing a space for continuous, transparent communication, the community will be better equipped to address emerging safety concerns and adapt to new challenges as the industry grows.
